Should College Athletes Be Paid

Imagine this: you get a scholarship to play for a college sports team. This team is you job, you train all day, you practice, and you play. But you find yourself coming home without money for gas, snacks, and your other needs because this â€Å"job† that you're putting in at least 40 hours a week, isn’t earning you a paycheck. There's been a huge debate on paying college athletes. Many believe that they should be paid because they put in all the effort, spend all their time, and earn all the money the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is receiving. On the other hand, others believe they shouldn’t be paid because they already received scholarship money to play, and that it would cost to much to pay all the athletes. I believe that college athletes should be paid because also said by Ramogi Huma, the Founder of the National College Players Association, â€Å"A Fair Day's Pay for a Fair Day’s Work.† To start off, college athletes deserv e a fair pay for all of the work that they are putting in. College athletes are putting in at least 40 hours a week practicing, going to the gym, and playing (according to an NCAA study). Combined with their school work they don’t have much time left to get an actual job to receive some income. For "full" scholarship athletes, the NCAA admits that the scholarship limit leaves them with $3,000 to $5,000 for out of pocket expenses. This includes the athletes with money for gas, snacks, clothing, etc. The NCAA disagrees with the idea of paying the college athletes because they believe the athletes are paid with free education which saves family's lots of money. Paying all the college athletes would also be very, very expensive. These statements are very true but from another perspective, players are putting in so much time every week and can lose their scholarship if they're injured. Not only do they put in the time, they bring in lots of money for the NCAA. Although the NCA A is a multi billion dollar industry currently worth 11 billion dollars, bringing in millions of dollars each year, the athletes aren’t receiving any chunk of the profit. If they were to pay all the college sports players, they would lose lots and lots of that money and have less money to brand items. But in all honesty, the only reason the NCAA is worth that amount is all because of the athletes. They are the ones who get fans to come to games, they are the ones making the plays and most importantly, they are the ones who should be getting paid: not the NCAA. With how much money the NCAA has, paying college athletes 3,000-5,000 dollars a year shouldn’t be much of a problem. From putting countless hours and raking in lots of money for the NCAA, there's still another reason why the athletes should be paid. Furthermore, said by Bobby Rush, Democratic Representative of Illinois, â€Å"Without Athletes, the Big Money in College Sports Disappears.† People arg ue that athletes aren't bringing in all the money, lots of money is made by branding clothing and other souvenirs. I would disagree with this statement because all of the clothing being sold is athlete related. The shirts have athletes names of teams on the, bobble heads of players! In addition to this, all the star players cause lot’s of fans to come to the games. As more people want to come the more expensive tickets get. That is another way the NCAA brings in money; from selling tickets. But, if there were no athletes there would be no people going to watch and no tickets would be sold. As a final point, all the money being made in the NCAA organization, would disappear without the athletes. In the end, college athletes should paid. They are putting in countless hours of work, bringing in all the money for the NCAA, and without them there wouldn’t even be a NCAA organization. Although athletes with scholarships are being paid with free education, they should sti ll receive a chunk of the profit that the NCAA is receiving. As a final point, I believe that college athletes should be paid! Should College Athletes Be Paid Paying college athletes has been a very controversial topic, paying the college athletes is hotly contested because some people think that a lot of colleges can’t afford this.   However others argue that the colleges make a lot of money off of the games.   In this writing you will read that paying college athletes is a good idea. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) doesn’t agree that they should pay the athletes.    One reason that this is a good idea is the team is the one who makes the colleges money.   One way that they do that is because the colleges make money off of jerseys, video games, autographs, and other spiritwear.   On the article A Way to Start Paying College Athletes the author wrote, â€Å"Some coaches are making millions of dollars a year while players make none.†Ã‚   That means that the coaches are making a lot of money when they don’t have jerseys of their names.   Some may argue that the coaches make the team better.   While that might be true still, all in all the players are the ones who are playing, not the coaches. Another reason to pay college athletes is that the athletes bring in a lot of fame to the school.   One way they do that is by making the team better.   Without the sports teams a lot of colleges wouldn’t be nearly as popular.   In the article Should NCAA Athletes Be Paid the author stated, â€Å"The colleges both pay for their educations and they increase the chances of them getting drafted in the NBA.†Ã‚   Some might argue that is true, but even if they do I can go back to the other reason that the athletes make the schools popular.   In the article Should NCAA Athletes Be Paid it was stated, â€Å"In the Final Four the NCAA charges $700,000 for a 30 second ad.†Ã‚   That is a lot of money for one game.   The NCAA makes millions of dollars for one game.   Imagine how much they make in all of the Final Four games, let alone the w hole season.   The colleges should be generous enough to share the money with the players. In conclusion, college athletes should be paid.   Many people disagree because that will cost a lot of money.   That may be true, but if the athletes weren’t there the colleges wouldn’t make any money from sports.   Overall, the good side of paying college athletes outweighs the bad side.

During the Ted Talk Joshua Foer discussed the topic of memory and how we can train the brain to retain any information we can by using memory palace. He argued that an average person can train their brain to remember and store information into memories more efficiently by using different techniques, which will sharper your brain. However, according to these people they us e an ancient technique called memory palace to remember thing rapidly. Memory palace is a technique that helps you memorize things by connecting it to a real life situation or something meaningful. It is literally impossible to meet everyone’s standards of perfection, especially society’s, because everyone views it differently. Being perfect could consist of a great personality or a good looking body. Because of the growing use of technology, the mass media have projected a certain way to look, eat, dress, and or behave. Many teenagers in today’s world are affected by society’s projection of self-image. Calpurnias characters help Atticus a lot in managing the family. She is a protective like a father, loving and caring as a mother and educated like a teacher, which mean a lot to the children. Scout and Jem learnt many things from her for becoming a good human being. In a nutshell, Calpurnia deserve a good treatment from the family. She has done a good Job to rise up the children. The children have grown to be a better person because of her although they do not have a mother.
